PUC Bhd Enters BESS Market with RM6.75 Million Acquisition of H BESS, Eyes 2GWh Local Assembly

Malaysian digital services company PUC Bhd is moving into the battery energy storage market through a proposed RM6.75 million acquisition of H BESS Sdn Bhd, giving the company a direct entry point into one of the fastest-growing segments of Malaysia’s renewable energy value chain.

PUC managing director Cheong Chia Chou said H BESS was a suitable strategic fit because it gives PUC an existing platform to enter the sector, rather than building capabilities from the ground up. He described the timing as favourable, with energy storage shifting from a supporting technology to a critical part of the power system.

What H BESS brings to the deal

H BESS is involved in the assembly and trading of BESS solutions and has already received a non-binding letter of intent for a 4,626-kilowatt-hour BESS system at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The company also has a partnership with China-based battery storage manufacturer Hithium Tech HK to establish a BESS assembly line in Malaysia, with a targeted production capacity of up to 2.0 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually once completed.

For PUC, the deal creates a platform combining internal capability with external technology support and local production capacity, according to Cheong.

Part of a wider sector trend

The acquisition comes as Malaysia’s BESS market draws increasing attention from research houses and domestic players alike. A July 2026 Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) report described battery storage as the next phase of growth for Malaysia’s renewable energy construction sector, framing it as a billion-ringgit opportunity. HLIB pointed to major programmes including LSS6 and the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) as key demand drivers, with developers expected to bring forward battery procurement plans in the second half of 2026.

Like the HyperStrong-RCT Power and Tamco-Hoymiles partnerships MESA has previously covered, the PUC-H BESS-Hithium arrangement follows a now-familiar pattern in the Malaysian market: international battery technology paired with local assembly and market access. As more of these partnerships take shape, the ownership and manufacturing structure behind each one is becoming as relevant to track as the capacity figures themselves.
