Malaysia’s Energy Commission has announced a landmark battery energy storage system (BESS) programme, marking a significant step forward in the country’s renewable energy transition. Four projects have been shortlisted in Peninsular Malaysia’s first large-scale BESS programme, with a total capacity of 1.6GWh.

This initiative aims to enhance grid stability and support the integration of renewable energy sources into the national power system. The selected projects will help address intermittency challenges associated with solar and wind power generation.

The programme represents Malaysia’s commitment to achieving its renewable energy targets and demonstrates the growing importance of energy storage technology in Southeast Asia’s energy landscape.
