Interconnection timelines, grid code requirements, and the pace at which new capacity can actually be brought online all depend on TNB’s own infrastructure being ready to absorb it. Developers building BESS projects under LSS6, MyBeST, or CRESS are, in effect, building against a moving target — the grid they are connecting to in 2026 is not the same grid they will be connecting to once this modernisation programme progresses.
The conference also saw agreements signed for a hybrid hydro-floating solar project and a separate utility-scale battery storage partnership with Hong Kong-based Cospower Technology, reinforcing that grid-side investment and storage deployment are increasingly being announced together rather than as separate workstreams.
