  • 20 October 2026 — 12.3 GW of supply capacity approved for data centre projects. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said in a written parliamentary reply that 12.3 GW of electricity supply capacity had been approved for data centre projects as of August 2026, and that the sector’s projected maximum demand is 8.39 GW by 2030. (The Star, 20 Oct 2026)
  • 20 October 2026 — A 30% renewable requirement, and a self-generation framework with no stated date. In the same reply, Fadillah said data centres must source at least 30% of their total demand capacity from renewable energy, and that the Energy Commission is preparing a framework for self-generation facilities. The reply did not state when that framework will be issued. (The Star, 20 Oct 2026)
  • 21 October 2026 — RM568.2 million substation contract from Tenaga Nasional. A consortium led by Jati Tinggi Group Bhd — with Kerjaya Prospek (M) Sdn Bhd and Betapec Sdn Bhd — said it received a RM568.2 million contract from Tenaga Nasional Bhd on 21 October 2026 for the Paka GIS transmission main intake substation in Terengganu, to be completed within two years of the commencement date. • 25 October 2026 — Singapore says it hopes for a regional submarine cable framework next year. Energy Market Authority chief executive Puah Kok Keong said at a media briefing held alongside the 19th Singapore International Energy Week that Singapore will work with ASEAN member states on the ASEAN Power Grid during its 2027 chairmanship, and that it hopes to reach agreement on a regional submarine power cable framework next year. He said “hopefully” and did not state it as a confirmed outcome. Phase Two of the Laos–Thailand–Malaysia–Singapore Power Integration Project allows Singapore to import up to 200 MW via Thailand and Malaysia. (The Edge Malaysia, 25 Oct 2026)
  • 20 October 2026 — A research house puts renewables at 32% of installed capacity. AmInvestment Bank Bhd said in a research report that renewable energy accounted for 32% of Malaysia’s installed capacity at end-2025, with solar making up 50% of the renewable mix, large hydropower 40%, biomass 6%, small hydropower 3% and biogas 1%. These are a research house’s figures, not an official Energy Commission or PETRA release. (The Borneo Post, 20 Oct 2026)
